Finance minister: Russia’s budget surplus at 0.4% of GDP in 2021

MOSCOW, Jan 14 (PRIME) -- Russia’s budget surplus amounted to 0.4% of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2021, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov told reporters on Friday.

“Surplus amounts to 0.4% of GDP,” he said.

He also said that all government decisions would be secured by financing even if the West introduces new sanctions.

“Any restrictions are unpleasant, they are unpleasant for our country and will have an impact on our partners, who impose these restrictions,” he commented on a new sanctions bill presented by the U.S. Democrats on Wednesday.

“I hope reason will prevail here and this bill will remain only a bill. But if the situation develops differently, we will find the answers to secure our decisions with financing to fulfill our tasks.”

The government plans to publish its healthcare support plan in reaction to the spread of the omicron variant of the COVID-19 coronavirus and support of the people affected by the disease very soon. The plan has financing, and the government will not have to look for the funds outside the 2022 budget, Siluanov said.
